04.10.2017 Agility Ridgies Competition Team

WeaveAs some may be aware, among our ranks we have a number of Ridgeback owners who compete with their hounds at agility events. Many of those competing have become members of the Facebook Group "Agility Ridgies" which has been running for a year or two and is administered by our own Kerry Rhodes. Over that time membership of the group has grown quite considerably and it is clear that more and more owners have become interested in agility and are training with their dogs. In light of this, members of the group have formulated a plan to develop an Agility Ridgies Competion Team, or teams, depending on how many members are interested.

Should you feel you'd like to take part please contact Kerry by email or make contact through the Agility Ridgies Facebook Group. You never know, you may end up starring at Crufts!
04.10.2017 Fundraising Super Sunday!

Sunday 10th September saw three separate fundraising events in support of Rescue; our own Fun Day and Companion Show, Susan Wake's Great North Run and the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Scotland's Forth Road Bridge Walk.

It was lovely to see so many at our Companion Show and Fun Day where judge Russell Mosedale was presented with some fine specimens to go over, spoilt for choice in many classes. But it wasn't just about showing; the other events and stalls were well supported and of course there was plenty of chance for attendees to chat with the trustees and among each other in a relaxing and convivial atmosphere. It could have been a bit warmer but we musn't be greedy! Our thanks to all who came along and supported us.
Running Girl
Congratulations to Susan Wake for completing the Great North Run, 13 odd miles and still as fresh as a daisy at the end! Thank you Susan for putting in such a tremendous effort for our benefit.

Dog WalkerFinally, but by no means least, our thanks to Lisa Aitkin and the hardy souls of the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Scotland for completing their sponsored walk across the Forth Road Bridge in support of Rescue. Not a place I'd care to be on a dreich day with the wind whistling around my sporan!  Thank you to all who took part.

While a final total of monies raised on Fundraising Super Sunday has yet to be determined, we do know that it is in excess of £1,000! Great stuff, and once again well done and thank you to all who took part.

02.07.2017 Susan Wake's Great North Run - 10th September 2017

RunnerAs a Ridgeback owner, Susan Wake has been moved to strap on her trainers to raise money for the Trust by taking part in the Great North Run in September. Her inspiration to submit her body to all the training and incumbent pain came about almost by accident, but let's let her tell it in her own words...........

"After losing my Dalmatian to cancer I vowed I would not get another dog after having them all my life, however the house was quiet and empty without being greeted every morning Or whenever I left the house with that unconditional love they always give. I then decided to do dog boarding to sort of feel normal again, one of my first dogs was a Ridgeback called Max. I had never came across the breed before so didn't know what to expect. At first I thought there was something wrong with him? Why isn't he bothered about going for a walk? What's wrong with his belly that he feels the need to display it and all his bits when he sleeps? Is he overheating or something? Does he have something wrong with his head as he constantly has it on a table resting or any surface he can find to put it on ?? Needless to say after I researched the breed it all fell into place and that was it, fell hook line and sinker....I lasted 6 month and found a reputable  breeder after speaking to the Rescue and hence I have a Woody. This boy is my best mate and couldn't think of my life without him. I would like to raise some funds for this fantastic charity who give it their all to rehome those who have lost their way for one reason or another . My heart breaks for each and every one of them now knowing how soft, gentle, sensitive and loyal they are yet end up in rescue centres. I shall do the Great North Run with pride having the Midlands and Northern Ridgeback Rescue name on my Tshirt."

It's Calendar Time...........

In truth it's a little bit past calendar time, we would normally launch this in the Spring, but Spring seems to have passed us by this year........

Anyhow, to the point, all you good people have come through for us in the past no matter how difficult the task. We need pictures of your dogs to star in our 2018 RidgebackRescue 25th June 2017!

If you would you like your dogs to feature in our 2018 Calendar, it's time to get snapping.

There are a few rules all of which can be found Here T&C's.

Only "landscape" oriented pictures are acceptable and preferably should be taken with a camera set at the highest resolution possible, and at a minimum of 300dpi (no, I don't really understand it either, but that's what the printer tells us!) I think most modern digital cameras should be capable of this. We have, in the past, been short on Winter/Christmas scenes, if you have any of those please send them in.

Photos should be submitted to

Naturally not all submitted pictures can be included, please don't be too despondent if your's is not selected. However, submitters of those which are selected will receive a calendar for free.

As usual, profits will go towards caring for ridgebacks that need our help!

Thank You, One and All

31.01.2017 Husky Trail Arctic Challenge - 24th to 31st March 2017
Ridgeback Rescue Supporter Kay Pettengell is undertaking the arduous Husky Trail Arctic Challenge to raise funds for two charities (one of which is our own) in memory of her Ridgeback, Odin, and her general love of animals. This enterprise involves taking a team of dogs 260Km sledding across the frozen lakes of the Arctic. But let her tell it in her own words.............

Husky Trai Arctic Challenge"I am doing a challenge next year in loving memory of my beautiful Ridgeback Odin and for the love of animals and dogs, it's "The Husky Trail Arctic challenge" where we take a team of dogs 260KM sledding across the frozen lakes of the Arctic. I would like to raise as much money as possible for animal rescue.

The two charities I am raising money for are Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Support & Rescue Trust and New Hope animal rescue in Abbey Wood South East London.

Helping to raise money for two wonderful charities in both the South and North of England.

Please click on the links below to read about these wonderful charities both whom are very small and rely on donations to help keep saving lives.

Thank you ever so much for your kind and thoughtful donation. It is much appreciated by these wonderful charities and will make a world of difference for the wellbeing of these lovely animals. I would be most grateful if you could kindly share this with as many people as you can.

With love Kay X"

Our thanks to Kay for her efforts, not to mention her bravery in attempting this challenge.

To recap, sponsorship donations in support of Kay on our behalf may be made here
