Companion Show 2014 in Support of Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Support and Rescue Trust

PicnicsThank you to everyone who supported the first Companion Show held in aid of the Midlands and Northern Rhodesian Ridgeback Support and Rescue Trust.

JudgingIt was lovely to see lots of faces from the show world but also meet lots of people who have had Ridgebacks over the years through Rescue.  The weather started off well but then the black clouds came and after a short heavy downpour, which stopped judging for 5 minutes we carried on in drizzle.  The show had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and it was great for owners of our Rescue's to meet and chat.  The venue was great, with a huge flat field surrounded by agricultural land with footpaths leading to some lovely walks, which some were able to take advantage of.  All the dogs were so well behaved and there was plenty of room so, while the weather was good, people were able to sit and have picnics while watching the early classes.  Many thanks to our judge Brian Stanley of Asante Ridgebacks for coming out of retirement to judge at this special show for a cause close to his heart.  Brian and Lil still own a rescue dog but she isn't a Ridgeback so he loved spending the day with so many of our special breed.

Best in ShowBest In Show  was won by Janette Eskerett's French Bulldog, Eli, and Reserve Best In Show went to the winner of AV Sporting Sean Sales' Rhodesian Ridgeback, Lillith, with Best Puppy In Show being awarded to Rachel Steel's ShihTzu, Dekota
Reserve Best in Show
We then had four fun classes just for Ridgebacks which we hope to keep on next year.

The Most Unusual Ridge was won by Kimba, the Best Ridge winner was Jake who had some strong competition and the Best Ridgeless was won by Simba whose owners had come just for that class and it was lovely to see Ridgeless taking part.  Best Rescue Ridgeback was the most poignant class and it was won by Mosi.

Merchandise and Rescue InformationFrom the ten Novelty Classes Brian found his Best Novelty In Show from the Under 11 Junior Handling class and Reserve Best Novelty In Show was the winner of Veteran, a Yorkshire Terrier.

One dog that had a great day and enjoyed meeting lots of dogs that looked like him was Franco a gorgeous ridged Rescue Rhodesian Ridgeback/Great Dane cross who won 'the dog the judge would most like to take home'.

In addition to the Companion Show we had a Scurry which was won by Heidi Parsons' RR, Pip with a speed of 2.97secs and the Fastest Recall was won by Sean Sales' RR, Lillith in a time of 2.66 secs.  Making her the fastest dog on the day!

Quite a few had a go at the Tracking kindly run and organised by John Broadsmith of Chainama Rhodesian Ridgebacks.  The hound breeds certainly excelled, particularly two Long-Haired Standard Dachshunds and two Beagle/Cross brothers.  The Ridgebacks took a little longer to get the idea but once they did, they were hooked.

Raffle PrizesThe raffles were very popular an overwhelming number of truly fantastic prizes had been donated by companies and individuals.  The new merchandise and rescue information also proved popular.

We managed to take a grand total of £698.80, which for a first time we are delighted with.  Planning has started for next year and hopefully we can make it bigger and better!
